City of Glasgow College has been recognised for making the Best Contribution to the Reputation of the Procurement
Profession at the annual Supply Management Awards.
The college was awarded the
accolade alongside the Scottish Government and Skills Development Scotland at
the Supply Management Awards, held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. It comes
as a result of the college’s ongoing successful partnership with the Chartered
Institute for Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Scottish Government
Procurement Team. The team created a
pilot programme with five local schools which saw almost one hundred 15-17 year
old pupils undertake a teaching programme and achieve a certificate.
The Procurement Team at the
college said; “A lot of hard work has went into this programme and it wouldn't have been possible without the support and commitment from the Procurement
staff at the Scottish Government. It is fantastic for us and everyone involved
to be recognised at such a prestigious event”.
College Principal Paul Little
said: “We are proud that our commitment to the procurement profession has been
recognised at the Supply Management Awards. We recently celebrated our thirty
year association with CIPS and I am delighted that the hard work, determination
and effort of the staff here has been given national recognition”.
Nikki Bell, Head of Scottish
Procurement Policy & Strategy said: "The College schools programme sits at the heart of the
wider Procurement People of Tomorrow initiative which could be a real game
changer for procurement. We’re ‘thinking big’! We’re determined to do what we
can to support youth employment, get young people in to our profession and help
build the commercial skills we need in Scotland. This award recognises not just
the hard graft of the teams involved, but commitment and collaboration across the
wider public and private sectors."
The college also recently launched
an HNC/D in Supply Chain and Procurement which is the first of its kind in
Scotland offering pupils a pathway into a career in the Procurement Industry.
